Bill Wyman explains why Brian Jones was kicked out of the Stones
The guitarist Brian Jones it was a fundamental part of the sound and songwriting of the Rolling Stones in the early days of the band, over time it then lost space in favor of Mick Jagger And Keith Richardswho were encouraged by the English band’s manager Andrew Oldham to put more effort into songwriting.
In an interview with Classic Rock, the British group’s first bassist, now 88 years old Bill Wyman he remembered why Brian Jones he ended up getting fired. “Andrew Oldham decided to get Mick and Keith to start writing songs because he realized that Mick, being the frontman, would probably become the most famous. Brian initially received a lot more fan mail than the rest of us. All the girls went by Brian. But he was put aside.”
Bill Wyman who left i Rolling Stones in 1993 he goes on to say: “Then Andrew exempted me, Brian and Charlie from doing interviews, which raised the profile of Mick and Keith.
Of course in the end it was to Mick and Keith’s advantage to take care of the music. But Brian, with whom I shared a room at the time, was always a little sad. He was angry because we didn’t make the kind of music he really liked, because we started out making real blues and he was a blues purist. There was no malice when Brian was fired, they just got tired of his drug use. None of us did drugs. Well, Keith. They did it a little, but there wasn’t any heavy stuff for years. I wasn’t high and neither was Charlie, we were completely clean. We had responsibilities, so we behaved well.”.
In 2024 Bill Wyman released his ninth solo album, “Drive My Car” (read the review here). The album arrived nine years later “Back to Basics” published in 2015.
