Beyoncé's Country Revolution: What's Behind the Breakthrough

Beyoncé on the pitch for Kamala: “It’s time for a new song”

Another superstar joins Kamala Harris’ fan club. It’s Beyoncé The former Destiny’s Child star was one of the most anticipated – and predictable, considering her closeness to former US president Barack Obama – endorsements for Kamala Harris.

It arrived yesterday, when Queen Bey, as fans call her, took the stage at a rally for the Democratic candidate who will challenge Donald Trump in the US presidential elections, in her native Houston, Texas. Kamala Harris’ rally had the right to abortion as its theme and was organized in response to the almost total ban on access to abortion in Texas following the annulment of the Roe v. Wade ruling (with which in January 1973 the Court United States Supreme Court legalized abortion at the federal level.) Beyoncé took the microphone before Harris entered the stage, to have her say and to support the dem candidate:.

I’m not here as a celebrity. I’m not here as a politician. I am here as a mother. A mother who cares, deeply, about the world my children and all our children live in. A world where we have the freedom to control our bodies. A world in which we are not divided: our past, our present, our future come together to meet us here. Kamala Harris is a woman who pushed for what this country really needs right now: unity. It’s impossible not to feel the energy in this room, the positivity, the community, the humanity. We are on the verge of incredible change. The edge of history.

Beyoncé, who released a country album, “Cowboy Carter,” last March, then drew on her musical roots to conclude her speech:

It’s time to sing a new song. A song that began 248 years ago. The old notes of fall, discord, desperation no longer resonate. Generations of loved ones before us are whispering a prophecy, a quest, a calling, a hymn. Our time is now. It’s time for America to sing a new song. Our voices sing a song of unity. They sing a song of dignity and opportunity. Are you all ready to add your voice to the new American song? Because I am. So let’s do it. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give a big, loud Texas welcome to the next president of the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris.
