The project, financed and distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment, marks the first time that Apple Corps Ltd. and the Beatles – Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, along with the families of John Lennon and George Harrison – have granted complete rights to the story and music of a film with screenplay.

The films should arrive in theaters around the world in 2027 and, according to what was reported in a press release, “the details of which will be shared closer to the release”, will follow an “innovative and revolutionary cadence”.
The films will be produced alongside Pippa Harris, Mendes’ partner in Neal Street Productions, and Julie Pastor of Neal Street. Jeff Jones will serve as executive producer for Apple Corps Ltd.

“I am honored to tell the story of the greatest rock band of all time and am excited to challenge the concept of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” explained Mendes.

Harris added: “We want this to be a unique, thrilling and epic cinematic experience: four films, told from four different perspectives that tell a single story about the most celebrated band of all time.” He continued: “To have the blessing of the Beatles and Apple Corps to do this is an immense privilege. From our first meeting with Tom Rothman and Elizabeth Gabler, it was clear that they shared both our passion and ambition for this project, and we can’t think of a more perfect home than Sony Pictures.”

Jeff Jones, CEO of Apple Corps Ltd., said: “Apple Corps is delighted to partner with Sam, Pippa and Julie to explore each Beatle’s unique story and bring them together in a suitably engaging and innovative way. The enthusiastic support of Sony Pictures, who championed the project’s scope and creative vision from the beginning, has been invaluable to us all.”

“I know I speak for our CEO Tony Vinciquerra, who helped make this happen, and for everyone at Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group around the world when I say, ‘Yes, yes, yes!’” he said. said Tom Rothman, President and CEO of the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, who added: “Movie events today must be culturally seismic. Sam’s bold, large-scale vision is this and so much more. We can’t wait to break some rules with Sam’s unique artistic vision.”
