Kendrick Lamar vs Drake: Rhyme War Picks Up Speed

Baseball reignites Drake-Kendrick Lamar diss track

The World Series, the US baseball finals, ended on the night between Saturday and Sunday. For us it is a strange sport, but in those parts it has been a gigantic phenomenon for over a century, so much so that it has been defined as “American past time”, the national pastime.
The world series ended with an epic and historic match, in which the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by the skin of their teeth: the Canadian team, leading throughout the match, suffered a draw in the last inning, then missing the decisive point due to a matter of a few centimetres, those which allowed them to eliminate a player who was scoring. “Game 7”, the decisive game of the series, went to overtime, to extra innings: the Dodgers won with a decisive home run.

Los Angeles vs. Canada: If the contrast tells you anything about music, you’re not wrong: Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake. The Canadian rapper is a well-known fan of his nation’s teams, and even during the World Series he made himself heard, making fun of Shohei Ohtani, the Japanese superstar of the Dodgers, several times on social media. Drake also showed up in Game 6 of the series which took place in Toronto (and was won by the Dodgers). Sportswise, after the Dodgers’ final victory he wrote “Congratulations to the Jays on a dream season and a legendary game in the World Series!”

Kendrick Lamar has been silent these days, but in the past he opened a game for his hometown team and on his latest album “GNX” there is a song called “Dodgers blue”. No further confirmation is needed… And in fact the Dodgers were more direct (and less sporty), posting a photo of the team and staff on social media with the caption “THEY STILL NOT LIKE US”. Every reference to the song with which the Compton rapper dismissed his colleague Drake and closed one of the most followed diss tracks of recent years is not accidental…
