Avril Lavigne performs in concert with ex Deryck Whibley
On the occasion of her recent concert at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last June 1st, Avril Lavigne surprised the fans present by inviting Deryck Whibley of Sum 41, as well as ex-husband of the voice of “Sk8er boi, on stage to perform with her by surprise. “.
Towards the end of the show, after playing some of her hits including “Complicated” and “Girlfriend”, the Canadian singer was first joined on stage by All Time Low to perform their “Fake as Hell” and then decided to perform together with another guest. “We have another special guest tonight, and he plays in one of my favorite bands, which is also one of your favorite bands,” Avril Lavigne told the audience – as reported by “Kerrang!” -before calling Whibley on stage, with whom she was married between 2006 and 2010. Together the two performed a live version of “In Too Deep” by Sum 41.
In just over a month both Avril Lavigne (recording to a halt with “Love sux” in 2022) and Sum 41, together with Simple Plan, will be the protagonists of July 9th at the I-Days festival in Milan. After the live collaboration last June 1st, Italian fans can therefore really hope for a live duet between the singer and Deryck Whibley.
It will be the last concert in Italy for Sum 41, before the two farewell concerts that the band will hold in January next year at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. The group released the latest album of its career, “Heaven :x: Hell” last March (read our review here). Speaking about Sum 41's decision to disband, during an interview with Rockol for the album's release, Deryck said: “There are a lot of things we've done and a lot of mistakes we've made. There have been a lot of successes and things I'm happy about, but there are also things we could have done differently, maybe.” He added: “But as far as regrets go, no, because I like where we're at. I love my life. And I love all the things we went through, all the difficulties, which makes the story interesting.” Furthermore, the dissolution of his group represents for Whibley “the beginning of something new”, yet to be discovered because, he explained, for the moment he is still “completely focused” on the band.
