Appino: a new song on the platforms at midnight

Appino: a new song on the platforms at midnight

After publishing last autumn “Humanize” (Read here) his third solo album, outside of Zen Circus, Andrea Appino surprisingly this night he puts it online “The old ways” new song from the Tuscan artist's songwriting repertoire.

The title is significant. “Le Vecchio Maniere” is a song that is the daughter and opposite consequence of the work on the last album with which she returns to a folk dimension, direct, intimate, but very linked to the contemporary in terms of the themes.

The Pisan artist says about the song:

The old ways it's a song, but also a declaration of intent. Even though the title is about today, now, now and here it does so using language from the past. I wrote it by hand in one go in my old notebook in a place near my house called “Ai Paparazzi”. The next day I took the lyrics and set it to music in the simplest way possible, using a melody that I had had in my head for some time, translating everything into a folk standard. After trying it over and over, I recorded it live on my old Fostex cassette: no computer, no arrangement, no overdubs: voice, guitar, harmonica, words, hiss. Having done this, I asked Davide Barbafiera to go to a place where I used to go many years ago, to do some filming and photography, with an old MiniDV camera and an old Polaroid. There is nothing nostalgic about this “operation”, I was just curious to see what would happen when talking about current events using only mediums from the past. Probably a necessity resulting from the opposite work (long and very modern) undertaken with Humanize. And also in his way a tradition: closing the third solo experience as it was with “Work mobilizes man” in 2013, or with a song guitar and voice.

For this new episode and for the video clip, which will be available from tomorrow at 2.00 pm on Vevo, Appino has chosen a taste that recalls the past and the instruments of a few decades ago.

Andrea Appino (born in Pisa in 1978) has been the pen, voice and guitar of the band since 1995 The Zen Circus, with whom he published 12 albums, an EP, a collection and is the author of an autobiographical novel. In 2013, during a break in the group, he released his first solo album “The will” which won the Targa Tenco as best debut album (for him as a soloist).

In 2015 followed the second album under his name entitled “Great animal fitting”. After eight years of experiments and research he publishes “Humanize”, the third recording work outside the group (which will however return). The album was accompanied by a long and extensive club tour (read here).
