Amyl & The Sniffers against sexist forty-year-old metalheads

A claim for independence through gritted teeth, but also ironic, a dirty guitar sound, an underground energy that then becomes contagious. Amyl & The Sniffers are back with the single 'U Should Not Be Doing That' accompanied by another song, 'Facts', a real b-side. The song, in fact. it was also released physically, in a limited 7” edition on Rough Trade Records. Recorded with Nick Launay (formerly working with Nick Cave and the Bad SeedsYeah Yeah Yeahs) is the first new work from the Melbourne quartet following their 2021 second album 'Comfort To Me'. 'U Should Not Be Doing That' features hints of the Stones' 'Miss You' and a whiff of Detroit garage grit, but Amy's distinct voice and the charm of the Melbourne group are at the heart of this muscular and hypnotic new groove. There is no lack of taste for provocation, as he demonstrates the photo taken with the singer while she pees with the band behind her slylyand a punk vibe that has always distinguished them.

Amy Taylor says: “Lyrically they're both pretty self-explanatory. 'U Should Not Be Doing That' makes me laugh, but in a way it also pokes fun at the shock people still feel when faced with skimpy clothing and the high school asshole attitude still typical of the music community (Yes, I'm talking about you average 40-year-old metalheads sitting around a table making jokes and complaining about a 28-year-old girl for wearing shorts and therefore “selling out”), but above all it makes me laugh. It's unconscious and meant nothing at the time it was written, but now I think it's a comedic way of Rub your dog's nose in his own pee after he's done it on your favorite rug or something like that”. The group will be the protagonist of a North American tour between July and August which includes some dates in support of Foo Fighters.

The debut album by Amyl and the Sniffers, a lineup consisting of Amy Taylor, Bryce Wilson, Dec Mehrtens and Gus Romer, was released in May 2019 and was received positively by critics.
