Alice In Chains reissue of “Black gives way to blue” released
To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of their 2009 album, “Black Gives Way to Blue,” Alice in Chains have announced a special vinyl reissue for September 27.
The disc, which marked the return to the scene of the Seattle band after the death of Layne Staley, which occurred in 2002, and will thus return available on vinyl after having been out of catalogue since its original release and has become a long-sought treasure among fans of the genre. In addition to a large two-LP release, “Black Gives Way to Blue” will also be released in three limited color editions (“Black Widow,” “Black Smoke,” and “Electric Smoke.”
Marking a significant moment in the band’s history, as its first album to feature William DuVall sharing vocals and guitar duties with founding member Jerry Cantrell, along with bassist Mike Inez and drummer/founding member Sean Kinney, “Black Gives a Way to Blue” achieved immediate commercial success upon its release, debuting at number five on the Billboard 200. Standout tracks on the album include the title track, which, featuring Elton John on piano, came as a heartfelt tribute to the late Layne Staley, capturing the band’s process of coming to terms with the loss of their frontman while finding a way forward.
