Alex Van Halen: “Van Halen music will come out sooner or later”
Alex Van Halen states that he is determined to continue making music and added that the unheard material of Van Halen will definitely be released, warning fans that they might not even be satisfied with what they hear.
In an interview granted to Billboard, the 71-year-old drummer also made a point of explaining that having put his equipment up for auction, interpreted as a sign of his imminent retirement from the scene, was misunderstood, Van Halen in fact explained that despite some health problems he intends to return to action within five years at the latest.
He explained to US magazine notebooks: “I won’t give up.
I don’t know where it comes from. I will die with chopsticks in my hand.” He added that spinal problems and an injury suffered in 2022 have caused him problems, but “with the modern technology we have now I should be fine within five years.”
After the release of the instrumental song “Unfinished” simultaneously with the publication of the memoir of “Brothers”, Alex Van Halen he explained that there will certainly be more material coming out. “I’m in no rush. I have an obligation to keep it up to Ed’s standards. (…) I need to have access to the right rehearsals, because not every day we played our best. We didn’t go into the studio saying, ‘We’re going to do a record from start to finish.’ We had little pieces here and little pieces there; you put them away until the moment comes where you say, ‘Hey, I think I like that piece…’ then you go back and build something from there.”
He added further: “I know people want to hear them… the other side of the coin is that this doesn’t sound like Van Halen. You’re wrong if you do, you’re wrong if you don’t.” Alex said he’s “looking forward to getting some people involved… other musicians and producers… You have to have the right team, because not everyone can do everything. So we’ll see.”
