AC/DC: "Back in Black" reaches one billion streams on YouTube

AC/DC, “Back in Black” Third Best-Selling Album Ever in the USA

AC/DC’s iconic seventh studio album, Back in Black, originally released in July 1980, has just earned two new certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), moving it up to number three on the list of best-selling albums of all time in U.S. history.

On July 8, the RIAA certified the Australian band’s work twenty-six times platinum, and shortly after, on August 21, it reached the milestone of twenty-seven times platinum. This latest certification came because the album sold 27 million copies, placing it ahead of the Eagles’ “Hotel California” in the list of best-selling albums ever overseas.

The top spot on the chart remains occupied by another Eagles album, their compilation “Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975)”, with 38 million copies sold, followed by Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, in second place with 34 million copies.

Worldwide, however, “Back in Black” – recently returned to stores in a limited edition on gold vinyl to celebrate AC/DC’s 50th anniversary – is the second best-selling album of all time, with a total of 50 million copies sold, surpassed only by “Thriller” (which has sold around 70 million copies).
