The band for a generation

Fontaines DC have been reconfirmed, based on the very recent publication of their latest album “Dopamine Chamber” (XL, 26), like the great reality of the global indie rock universe with the pretense of a generalist group. A title that makes the group’s fifth album in a total of seven years, adding another piece to the puzzle that is the unstoppable career of the Irish. Sufficient period of time, furthermore, for the band to have shown an evolution adorned with reinventions and valuable nooks and crannies that, far from betraying the essence of the combo, has enriched its own background. And the quintet came close to filling the Movistar Arena, which was the presentation of the reference in question after their successful peninsular tour last summer.

Large square, therefore, in which the protagonists confirmed their rank and defended their reign live with a continuous effect, without ever doubting their power, and thus dismantling the arguments of any skeptic. Fontaines DC Not only are they aware, at this point, of all the potential they harbor in order to become a truly large group, but they also show status on stage, in a display far from any shyness or dissimulation. Fontaines DC They dragged the audience in their peculiar whirlwind, displaced from the stands at the back of the venue to those first rows that surrounded the catwalk attached to the stage along which Grian Chatten frequently walked.

The group raised a display of interwoven songs from all their albums, guided by that master of ceremonies, increasingly grown within an apparent simplicity, who turns out to be the vocalist. Themes distributed between the explicit (“Nabokov”, “Boys In The Better Land”, “I Love You”, “Mimesis”, “Starburster”) and the disarming (“Roman Holiday”, “You Miss Me”, “Japan”, “In The Modern World”, “Six Shot Morning”). Forming, one and the other, a global of those that leave a trace little less than historical, in a priceless review of just over an hour and a half through that catalog that begins to look insultingly superior to the rest. A sequence of uninterrupted emotion and intensity, generous in nuances and with each and every one of those selected for the evening received by the faithful with hymn cheers.

Fontaines DC They are a band, as capable of religiously engaging with their demographic stratum as of generating the same devotion in an old guard that recognizes influences and a talent that today seems unlimited. A strange conjunction of The Cure and The La’s, Joy Divison and The Smiths. And they could well be understood, in terms of devotion and transcendence, as the Oasis of times destined to be marked through their imprint. With its magnificent songs acquiring an incorruptible meaning for those who are (we are) lucky enough to live, with that exclusive ardor that the first person gives, the phenomenon associated with a formation that begins to express, openly, all the options.
