Vetusta Morla recover their beginnings in “Bailar en Beirut”

Old Morla They return to the freshness of their beginnings in their new song “Bailar en Beirut”, a piece that understands music as an act of resistance and dignity through art.

A few months ago, the image of a musician playing the cello on the ruins of Beirut went around the world. That video, recorded in a pause between two Israeli attacks, would immediately become a symbol of cultural resistance. At the same time, it was the trigger for Vetusta Morla to create the song “Bailar en Beirut”, which the band has just shared on platforms.

“Dancing in Beirut” is a song that refers to the freshness of Vetusta Morla’s beginnings, a few years in which, precisely in the capital of Lebanon, they lived one of the most decisive episodes of their career. There, in 2004, at a festival called Anti-Crise, they embarked on a human and artistic experience that made them mature as people and strengthen the ties of friendship between the members of the group. “Legend says that the impact on us was such that on the last night of our stay there, standing on the roof of the Ottoman house where the festival was held, we sealed the oath to always do everything in our power to continue this fabulous adventure,” they now remember.

For this reason, the group recovers images from that concert and from that trip to Beirut twenty-two years ago for the video clip of the song, combining them with current images from the rehearsals of the new tour and from their first concert in Barcelona on October 2. A piece that, in the words of its director Ivan Blancomoves “between archive and live, between distance and memory, facing the unique and unrepeatable of the stage.”
