Azkena Rock Festival reveals the complete lineup for its 25th anniversary
Patti Smith, Bad Religion, Marilyn Manson, Slash and wilco headline the most special edition of the festival, which will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary June 17 to 19, 2027 in Mendizabala with nearly sixty artists.
Azkena Rock Festival has just surprised us by revealing the complete lineup for its 25th anniversary, an edition that will take place on June 17, 18 and 19, 2027 in Mendizabala, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and which brings together nearly sixty names spread across many of the branches of rock.
In the upper part they appear Patti Smith, Bad Religion and Slash ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspiratorsthe three on a single date in the State in 2027, along with Marilyn Manson and wilco. A header that well summarizes the breadth of vision that has always characterized Azkena: punk, hard rock, Americana, alternative rock and darker sounds sharing space.
The lineup continues with an extensive representation of American roots, blues and classic rock led by The Waterboys, 16 Horsepower, Dave Alvin & The Guilty Ones, Old 97’s, Billy Bragg, American Aquarium, John Garcia, Beth Hart and Rival Sons. They will also be The Southern River Band, Parker Barrow, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Grand Canyon —the project of Carlos Tarque, Leiva and Iván González “Chapo”— and The Bird Experience.
The more electric, punk and distorted side is not short either. Michael Monroe will recover the Hanoi Rocks repertoire, while Billy Talent, Super 400, The Drones, Cockney Rejects, The Bevis Frond, Girls Against Boys, Foxy Shazam, Twin Temple and Bratakus They complete a block that moves between punk, garage, noise, glam and hard rock. State representation includes Cala Ventowhile from Euskal Herria they will arrive The Clayton, BARRRK and Mars Lasarte.
THE wildest space in Mendizabala will return converted into Trashville Allstars & Friends. They will pass through there again The Straitjackets, Micky and The Colossus of Rhythm, Blind Rage & Violence, Bob Log III, The Cyborgs, Dead Elvis & His One Man Grave, Les Greene, The Bank Robbers, Reverend Beat-Man with Milan Slick, Bárbara and Rey and Old Time Spooks. They join Demented Are Go, The Urban Voodoo Machine, Tear Dungeon and Wild Billy Childish & CTMFwho will finally be able to perform at the festival after their planned visit for 2023 did not materialize.
The main novelty of this edition will be Strawhouse, a new stage with a rustic atmosphere and more intimate format dedicated to acoustic performances and folk, country and blues sounds. Its first program will bring together Nick Lowe, Dave Hause, Lilly Hiatt, Joana Serrat, Tulsa, Deke Dickerson, Jerron “Blind Boy” Paxton, Hayseed Dixie, Peter Bruntnell and The Complete Recordings of Hezekiah Procter.
With this display, Azkena is practically putting all its effort into celebrating a quarter of a century of history in Mendizabala from the beginning.
