Eduardo “Rodway” Rodríguez, founding guitarist of Triana, dies

The Sevillian musician Eduardo Rodríguez “Rodway”guitarist and founding member ofTriana, He has died at the age of eighty-one and was the last survivor of the three founding members of the group.

Rodway was born in Seville in 1945. He formed Los Payos, with whom he had success in the late sixties with songs like “Maria Isabel”, before joining De la Rosa and Tele. Triana published “The patio” in 1975, “Children of the burden” in 1977 and “Shadow and light” in 1979, an album with which came commercial success. Their fusion of flamenco and rock became known as Andalusian rock and served as a reference for bands like Guadalquivir, Mosque either Mall.

On October 13, 1983, De la Rosa died in a traffic accident in Burgos, while returning from a concert in San Sebastián, and the group disbanded. Rodway released two solo albums and retired in 1987. In 1994 Tele asked him if he would mind Triana returning with other musicians and he agreed. After Tele’s death, the brand was inherited by his widow, and the group has continued to perform without any founding members.
