The Dalla Foundation against National Future: “Far from Lucio”

New controversy over the use of songs in the political sphere: it often happens in Anglo-Saxon countries and also here, every now and then. During the founding assembly of Futuro Nazionale, the movement led by General Roberto Vannacci, the song “Futura” by Lucio Dalla was used as the soundtrack of the event.

This did not please those who protect the singer’s artistic legacy: “We were not asked for any authorization, and if that by a political party is always an improper use of Dalla’s songs, it is even more unpleasant if it happens by someone who is so far from Lucio’s thoughts and world”, Dea Melotti, vice-president of the foundation and cousin of the singer-songwriter, told Repubblica Bologna. The song was presented before and after Vannacci’s speech, and presented as “a song that looks to the future, just like us”, with a not too veiled reference to the futurist movement, which has always been one of the references of the Italian right.

As Il Fatto Quotidiano reports, Daniele Caracchi, member of the Lucio Dalla Foundation and of the historic Pressing Line label, also spoke on the matter: “We were taken aback and amazed. To protect Lucio’s image and art we have never allowed Dalla to be used in a political context, regardless of the party. Dalla is beyond any partisan reasoning; I believe it is the first time this type of use has happened and we will try to clarify.”
