Pearl Jam has a new drummer

Pearl Jam, first the new drummer, then the album

Pearl Jam take their time and the mysterious saga of the new member who will replace the resigned Matt Cameron becomes even more intricate.

Now, Jeff Ament also intervenes on the issue, after Stone Gossard. The guitarist and founder of the band had revealed that the drummer who would take Cameron’s place after 27 years had already been chosen, underlining however that the band had no intention of revealing his name until the first release, preferring mystery. Jeff Ament, interviewed by the Associated Press, confirms and reiterates: the new drummer will have to test the chemistry with the group by playing not only on September 27th at the Ohana festival in California – i.e. the date set for the return: “I think we will have to do 10 or 15 concerts with whoever our new drummer is and develop that part of the journey before recording a record”

“The big question is whether he will be the future drummer of Pearl Jam. It will be the first concert, so there will be some kind of rehearsal. It’s an exciting thing. It took a little longer than we thought, but we didn’t have any pressure or rush.”

Which, therefore, lengthens the time required for the band to return to full activity and to a possible successor to “Dark matter”, the group’s last studio album, released in 2024. As Pearljamonline notes, which relaunched and translated Ament’s interview – the band could enter the studio during 2027 and release a new album in 2028. Provided that the drummer – whoever he is – passes the concert test and is therefore confirmed.
