Prince: an unreleased song from 1995 anticipates the posthumous album “Timeless”

Prince’s legacy continues to hold surprises. “Stone” is available today, an unreleased song recorded in the spring of 1995 which anticipates the release of “Timeless”, new posthumous album expected on August 28th. Released by The Prince Estate in collaboration with Legacy Recordings and Sony Music, the project brings together ten rare and unreleased recordings from the artist’s vast archive. The aim is to tell Prince’s entire creative arc through material recorded in different eras: from the first sessions recorded in Minneapolis in 1977 to one of his last live performances in 2016.

Written by Sandra St. Victor, Tom Hammer and Jules Van Even, “Stone” arrives a few weeks after the publication of “With This Tear”, another song recovered from the archives and released last April. Together they offer a taste of a work that promises to show lesser-known sides of the Minneapolis musician’s production. More than just a collection of outtakes, “Timeless” presents itself as a journey through Prince’s different artistic seasons, highlighting the continuity of a musical vision that has spanned almost four decades without ever losing originality and capacity for innovation. The album’s release also coincides with Prince Celebration 2026, the annual event dedicated to the artist which takes place between Paisley Park and Minneapolis. A particularly significant appointment, which comes ten years after his death and which confirms how central his influence continues to be in contemporary music.
