Bjork presents new song “Nerve Bloom” at an exhibition
Bjork premiered a new song, “Nerve Bloom”taken from his next album, on the occasion of the inauguration of the exhibition Echolalia at the National Gallery of Iceland in Reykjavík. The album has not yet been officially announced, but its release is scheduled for 2027.
The gallery is made up of three large-scale, deeply personal audiovisual installations created by Björk: two of these are reworkings of songs from her 2022 album “Fossora” (read the review here), while the third offers a first taste of the next album.
The first taste, included in the exhibition, is entitled “Nerve Bloom” and it’s a demo version of a song that should be on the next album. Describing how she chose to accompany the song with suggestive images, the singer said she worked for seven months with the painter Natalia Kleszczewska and the graphic designer Natalie Liu to capture the energy felt in the recording.
The 60-year-old Icelandic musician explained: “My role was that of creative director, harking back to the songwriting tradition, where emotionally precise elements develop within the structure of a song. I guided the choice of color palettes, textures and environments in which the music develops. To make this possible, during the process, Natalia often had to paint different shapes and sizes, different textures and layers of color. Natalie then developed the visual elements, designing and supervising the CGI effects and finding ways to organically integrate digital with Natalia’s world, including my playwriting and creative direction.”
