Thom Yorke will present a film in Rome on July 2nd

Thom Yorke arrives in Rome. Not in concert. But to present a film. Not his. But by Alfonso Cuarón. The film in question is “Children of Men”: released in theaters in 2006, on 2 July it will be revived – twenty years after its release – on the screen of the Il Cinema in Piazza festival, the event organized every year by the Piccolo America Foundation between Piazza San Cosimato in Trastevere, the Cervelletta Park and Monte Ciocci, in the capital. The screening will take place in the Cervelletta Park and Thom Yorke will be involved in an unusual role: he will introduce Alfonso Cuarón’s masterpiece. Can you see the Radiohead frontman in the guise of a film presenter? Precisely for this reason the appointment is even more special. The news was announced during the official presentation of the festival, which this year will bring numerous protagonists of international cinema to Rome.

Over the years, Thom Yorke has built an increasingly close relationship with cinema. From the soundtracks for “Suspiria” and “Confidenza” to the continuous audiovisual research of his live shows, the English musician has often crossed the border between music and images. Today he also lives part of the year in Rome (in the house that once belonged to Italo Calvino), a city with which he has developed a personal and creative bond.

The choice to involve Thom Yorke in the presentation of “Children of men” is not a coincidence: the soundtrack includes a Radiohead song, “Life in a glasshouse”, taken from the 2001 album “Amnesiac”. The song appears in a scene set in the house of Jasper, the character played by Michael Caine, while he converses with Theo (Clive Owen). It’s used in the background, almost hidden, but for Radiohead fans it’s instantly recognisable.

All Il Cinema in Piazza events have free admission, without reservations. The event will start at 9.15pm.
