Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, their first duet is out

Paul McCartney surprises the Saturday Night Live audience

Grand finale for the 51st season of Saturday Night Live, closed with a special appearance by Paul McCartney. The former Beatle, guest of the episode aired on May 16, gave the audience a last surprise moment by returning to the stage during the cast’s traditional final greetings to perform “Coming Up”, a historic song from 1980’s “McCartney II”.. During the evening the British musician had already presented two songs: the new “Days We Left Behind”, single from the upcoming album “The Boys Of Dungeon Lane”, and the famous “Band on the Run”, accompanied on drums by Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The final encore came almost unscheduled. As the cast greeted the studio audience, McCartney reunited with the musicians to improvise one last performance, with the SNL actors visibly celebrating in front of the stage. A rare moment also for the American program, which often interrupts the live broadcast of the “goodnights” due to time constraints. The new album “The Boys Of Dungeon Lane” will be released on May 29th and will also include “Home To Us”, a duet with Ringo Starr which marks the first real vocal collaboration between the two former The Beatles. The song, according to previews, will be dedicated to the memories shared in their Liverpool.

In recent days McCartney has also returned to talk about his relationship with John Lennon, recalling how the hardest moments experienced together were only a small part of their bond. “Most of the time he was generous, affectionate and easy to work with,” he said in an old interview. Meanwhile, anticipation is also growing for the opening to the public of the historic building at number 3 Savile Row, in London, home of the Beatles’ iconic 1969 rooftop concert. The project will offer fans an immersive journey through archives, exhibitions and the reconstruction of the “Let It Be” studio.
