Italian punk unites to pay homage to the Ramones
There is a before and an after in the history of music, and that boundary is marked by a black and white cover: four silhouettes leaning against a brick wall, a fixed gaze and an attitude that didn’t ask anyone for permission. It was 1976 when i Ramones released their first album, throwing a stone into a pond that was too calm. They weren’t just songs, but two-minute bullets that demolished “baroque” rock to return it to the street (here is the special mixtape by Rockol).
That wall is now fifty years old, but it has not lost even a fraction of its incisiveness. To celebrate this punk jubilee, the Italian scene has decided to go big with “One*Two*Three*Four”, a compilation that presents itself as a collective roar orchestrated by Professional Punkers.
Ben 14 Italian bands they ideally found themselves in the same garage to get that sound back. Not to imitate Joey or Johnny, but to honor a legacy that in Italy has found one of the most faithful “embassies” in the world. The groups involved include Derozer, Tough, Wally Gators, Punkreas, Manges, Retarded, Rappresaglia, Latte+, Senzabenza, Gli Impossibili, The Crooks, Shandon, Bad Frog and Juda’s Kiss; names that cover different generations and shades of national punk.
The limited edition vinyl of the tribute will be released in July, but it is already possible to pre-order a copy here.
