Dogstar’s new single is very reminiscent of U2

This Sphere“, the new single from Dogstar (generally known as “the band of Keanu Reeves“), is a leap back in time. Preview of the fourth studio album, “All In Now” (scheduled for release on May 29, 2026), “This Sphere” continues the path of rebirth of the group, which finds inspiration among U2, The Cure and David Bowie.

The sound is a mix of 90s alternative rock and cleaner modern sounds, produced by Nick Launay (former producer of IDLES and Nick Cave). The official video was directed and edited by Carlos Garcia Medina: has an intimate and thoughtful tone that fits perfectly with the text. It doesn’t focus on grandiose special effects, but on the connection between the band members and the energy of the performance. It accompanies the words of the song, which talk about the search for happiness in a chaotic world.

Happiness is bulletproof

All around this sphere

Our enemies just disappear

“This Sphere” has a soul very close to the rock of the 80s and especially the 90s. On the guitar, Bret Domrose used very careful effects on this single: the sound of the guitar is not only distorted in a grunge sense, but is full of delays and crystalline reverbs that create that spatial and rhythmic sound texture typical of U2 of the period The Joshua Tree.

As Domrose himself explained, the song is built on a “rolling” beat. The bass of Keanu Reeves and the battery of Robert Mailhouse they create a solid and pulsating carpet that is very reminiscent of the rhythm section of Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr., where the bass does not simply accompany but pushes the song forward.

While Dogstar’s early works were more related to adolescent punk rock, the new lyrics have a more mature tonealmost spiritual, which seeks a connection with the listener on themes such as resilience and hope, another point of contact with the poetics of U2.

The 2026 tour will pass also from Italy for four dates scheduled for July 11th in Rome, July 12th in Bari, July 14th in Pordenone and July 15th in Milan.
