Britney Spears pleads guilty and avoids prison
12 months of probation but no jail time for Britney Spears: the pop star reached an agreement by pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of wet reckless driving, on charges of DUI (Driving under the influence) The singer did not appear in court in Ventura County, where she had been charged after her arrest in March. According to her lawyer, Michael A. Goldstein, the plea deal also came in light of the steps undertaken by the artist, who after her arrest had voluntarily admitted herself to rehab, to a facility to receive support.
The singer will also have to undergo any vehicle checks at the request of the authorities, attend a DUI course and continue the therapeutic process, with weekly meetings with a psychologist and monthly meetings with a psychiatrist. She was also banned from using or possessing substances without a prescription
Last March 4, Spears was arrested for driving under the influence and released after a few hours. The pop star was stopped (and handcuffed) by the California Highway Patrol at around 9.30pm, only to be released at 6am the next day. “Britney will take the right steps and comply with the law,” her lawyer said. “We hope that this will be the first step towards a long-overdue and necessary change in her life. We hope that she will receive the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her children will spend time with her. Her loved ones will develop a long-needed plan to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for her.”
