Ariana Grande returns to music: new album in July
Ariana Grande has announced her new studio album “Petal”, out July 31st via Republic Records. It is the singer’s eighth album and the first complete project after “eternal sunshine” in 2024 and after the last two years she has dedicated herself above all to cinema, playing Glinda in the films “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good”.
The album was co-written and executive produced alongside longtime collaborator ILYA. As anticipated, “petal” will have a more organic imprint and oriented towards personal growth. The artist herself described it as “something full of life growing through the cracks of something cold, hard and difficult”.
The previous album “eternal sunshine” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and spawned the singles “yes, and?” and “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)”, both of which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100. We wrote about the previous album:
It’s a mystery how Ariana Grande managed to become one of the most acclaimed pop stars of the last ten years without ever truly making a revolution. Let’s be clear: the Boca Raton diva is not as influential an artist as we often tend to believe. Yes, she does great numbers, but musically she has never been so relevant: raise your hand if you have the courage to argue that with her records Ariana has left important marks from an exclusively artistic point of view.
(…) In the thirteen songs contained in the album Ariana Grande tries to erase the memories of her marriage, between budgets, questions and showing her fragilities. The album is an ode to healing, which between vocals and sticky melodies sees the pop star returning to collaborate with the same Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh, after they had skipped the previous round, “Positions” of 2021.
