THE Wailers they published “Kaya” in March 1978, a month before ‘One Love Peace Concert’ in Kingston, which marked Marley’s return to Jamaica from London. The album came out at a time when Bob Marley he was a hugely successful star in Europe, the United Kingdom and Jamaica, and was ready to make it big in the United States.
David Sinclair on uDiscoverMusic explained: “‘Kaya’, like ‘Exodus’ before it, was recorded in London, during Marley’s period of ‘exile’ from Jamaica, and is often considered a sister album to ‘Exodus’. But the two records offer a marked contrast in tone. After the apocalyptic visions and majestic heights of ‘Exodus’, the musical atmosphere of ‘Kaya’ reflected a more peaceful and harmonious.”
Although it included three songs first recorded for “Soul Revolution Part II” of 1971, including “Sun is Shining”which posthumously became one of Marley’s best-loved pieces, and “Satisfy My Soul”, “Kaya” is best known for “Is This Love”the love song that reached the Top Ten in the UK and was later the opening track of the collection “Legend”. In the video shot at Keskidee Arts Center London we note the presence of the future top model Naomi Campbell who was seven years old at the time.
