Avril Lavigne pays homage to Alanis Morissette

An artistic circle is closed for Avril Lavignewho released his version of “Ironic”the classic by Alanis Morissette which marked the pop culture of the 90s.

In her interpretation, Lavigne chooses the path of philological respect: the arrangement and the lyrics (historically discussed for their improper use of the concept of irony) remain faithful to the original structure. Rather than attempting to emulate Morissette’s vocal power, the singer preferred to focus on an aesthetic that directly recalls her emotional and pop punk sounds which characterized his debut in the early 2000s.

The relationship between the two artists on this song has deep roots. On February 11, 2005, at House of Blues in Los Angelesa young Lavigne had already taken the stage during a Morissette concert for a duet that later went viral among fans. On that occasion, the apparition occurred during the first encore, immediately after a performance of Losing Grip.

The release of this cover is linked to the soundtrack of the romantic comedy “Mile End Kicks”waiting in theaters for the April 17. The film features protagonist Barbie Ferreira as Grace Pine, a 24-year-old music critic who, in 2011, decides to move to Montreal. The goal of his journey is the writing of a book dedicated to the genesis of “Jagged Little Pill”the 1995 cult album that transformed Morissette into a global icon. The choice of Lavigne for the soundtrack therefore underlines the generational and thematic connection that forms the backdrop to the film.
