Farewell to the Indian singer and actress Asha Bhosle, she was 92 years old
The Indian actress and singer passed away at the age of 92 Asha Bhosle who collaborated with i Gorillaz and inspired the song “Brimful Of Asha” of the Cornershop. The news was confirmed by her family, who said the singer died after being hospitalized in Mumbai due to extreme exhaustion and a lung infection.
In her career, as reported by the British magazine NME, Bhosle recorded over 12,000 songs and was one of the most important Indian singers of all time. As well as a brilliant career in Bollywood – as the Indian film industry is defined – where she was known as “Sadi rani” (Punjabi term meaning “our queen”), also made herself known to the Western public thanks to her 1991 collaboration with Boy George in “Bow Down Mister”and his recent participation in the song “The Shadowy Light” included in the latest album by Gorillaz “The Mountain” (read the review here) published no later than a couple of months ago.

the following year, which reached number one in the UK charts. The song celebrated Indian film culture and female playback singers in particular, pointing to Bhosle as an example.
Among those who paid tribute to her was also the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating, “His extraordinary musical journey, spanning decades, has enriched our cultural heritage and touched countless hearts around the world. He will continue to inspire generations and his songs will forever resonate in people’s lives.”
Born in 1933, Asha Bhosle he began recording music at the age of 10, making his debut in film ‘Majha Bal’. In the 1950s and 1960s, Bhosle became a leading figure in Indian cinema. During his career he received two award nominations Grammy Awards.
