Goodbye to Gino Paoli

Goodbye to Gino Paoli

Gino Paoli passed away today, March 24th. Among the greatest Italian singer-songwriters and a central figure of the so-called “Genoese school”, he was 91 years old. The sad news was given by the artist’s family, who in a press note asking for maximum confidentiality declared:

“This night Gino left us in peace and surrounded by the affection of his loved ones”

Born in Monfalcone in 1934 and deeply linked to Genoa, the city in which he lived for most of his life, he was one of the great singer-songwriters and symbol of Italian music of the twentieth century. Over the course of his career from the 1960s onwards, thanks to the elegance of his writing and his immediately recognizable tone, Gino Paoli left an indelible mark. From his repertoire stand out songs that have entered the collective imagination such as “Il cielo in una stanza” and “Sapore di sale”.

His production has been able to intertwine lyricism and introspection with a popular sensitivity capable of speaking to everyone, helping to redefine the boundaries of songwriting alongside figures such as Luigi Tenco and Fabrizio De André.
