Rumors: Dave Murray might leave Iron Maiden
In an article published by Whiplash it is reported that sources close to the Iron Maiden they hypothesize a potential abandonment of the band by the guitarist Dave Murray due to the 69-year-old British musician’s alleged dissatisfaction with the group’s constant commitments which do not allow him to spend time with his family.
This is what the music journalist declared Regis Tadeu: “I have a very close source within Iron Maiden’s circle. He misses his family very much and can’t stand to see his grandchildren grow up. He’s tired.”
Tadeu also spoke about the contractual difficulties that could prevent Murray from leaving, who is the second longest-serving member of the British band after the founder, bassist Steve Harris. “Iron Maiden isn’t just a band. They’re more of a company. They’re a financial institution that generates money, that creates jobs. It was said, ‘Are you going to quit after 49 years in business? Next year it’ll be 50’. You can’t ignore a milestone like 50 years. Do you think anyone would leave a band of this size without paying a penalty?”
This rumor, however, contradicts a recent statement that Dave Murray granted to Metal Injection regarding the tour “Run For Your Lives” of the Iron Maidenwhich has been extended until 2026: “We’re all ready for this tour, and then we’ll see what the future holds. But at the moment the band sounds great.” The tour will make a stop next summer also in Italy Giuseppe Meazza stadium in Milan, on 17 June.
