Arch Enemy, a new era: who is Lauren Hart, the new singer
The new era of Arch Enemy it begins. After the announcement of Alissa White-Gluz’s departure from the band, who had been part of the Swedish band for over ten years, the group originally from Halmstad inaugurates today – 19 February – a new chapter in his career with the presentation of the first new song after the release of the latest album “Blood dynasty”. The song is titled “To the last breath” and it’s Arch Enemy’s first song with new singer Lauren Hart.
Born in 1986Born in America but raised in Australia, Lauren taught herself to play the piano when she was a child, before switching to the guitar at the age of 14. In 2014 it was discovered by Monte Conner of Nuclear Blastwho put her in touch with Logan Mader (Machine Head). Thanks to that meeting, the two decided to found a new band and started working on the project Once Human. At the beginning Lauren was involved as a guitarist, but after the first meetings with Mader she chose to definitively move on to vocals, becoming the face and above all the expressive force of the project. With Damien Rainaud on bass and Ralph Alexander on drums, the first incarnation of Once Human took shape, and in 2015 they released their debut album “The life I remember” for earMUSIC. Right away Hart stands out for a powerful and aggressive vocal style, capable of alternating deep growls and sharp screaming with remarkable technical control. The artistic understanding with Mader becomes the creative engine of the band, which consolidates its identity with the second album “Evolution” (2017) and, after some lineup changes and intense live activity between the United States and Europe, with “Scar Weaver” (2022).
On Lauren Hart joining Arch Enemy, guitarist and founder Michael Amott said in a press release:
“Connecting with Lauren marked an important step in my journey. Working with her was an exceptional experience: her extraordinary voice, combined with her dedication and professionalism, brings a rare level of excellence. I look forward to continuing the collaboration.”
On the new song “To the last breath”, Amott added: “Make no mistake: This song is a showdown. Musically, it’s perfectly in line with my original vision for the band, and I think longtime fans will recognize it immediately. The lyrics are about seeing through deception and dismantling the illusion of control. Capture that moment when you realize you have been poisoned and choose to react. Once you reach this awareness, you can never go back. It’s make or break. Just when you think it’s over, a new beginning is born. Until my last fucking breath!”.
At the same time, Arch Enemy – which now features Lauren Hart as singer, Michael Amott and Joey Concepcion as guitarists, as well as Sharlee D’Angelo as bassist and Daniel Erlandsson as drummer – announced a series of concerts in European and British clubs between next July and August. Currently the band has no scheduled dates in Italy.
The news of Arch Enemy’s return with a new singer follows rumors and speculation in recent months about who might take over the role behind the microphone. The most popular name was that of Angela Gossowa fundamental figure in the band’s history having been the group’s first female singer since 2000 – succeeding Johan Liiva. Alissa White-Gluz joined Arch Enemy, inheriting Angela’s position.
Meanwhile, Alissa has already released new music as a soloist, the singles “The room where she died” and “Breatinh,” and presented his bandwhich now features guitarists Alyssa Day and Danielle Sophia.
