U2 like Springsteen: surprise album against wars and tyrants

When Bruce Springsteen turned on the TV in his home in New Jersey and saw what was happening in Minneapolis between ICE and the protesters, he didn’t think twice: he picked up the guitar and composed “Street of Minneapolis”, dusting off his militancy with a protest song in which he pointed his finger against Donald Trumpannouncing immediately after a tour to “celebrate and defend America, American democracy, American freedom, our American Constitution, and our sacred American dream.” Current events also inspired U2: Bono and his associates have surprisingly released an EP of unreleased songs presented as a «immediate response to current global events and inspired by the many extraordinary and courageous people fighting on the front lines for freedom». The mini-album is titled “Days of ash” (because it was released on Ash Wednesday, the one after Carnival) and contains five new songs: “American obituary”, “The tears of things”, “Song of the future”, “One life at a time” and “Your eternally”, the latter in collaboration with Ed Sheeran (and Taras Topolia). There is also a poem, “Wildpeace”, featuring Adeola and Jacknife Lee. In the songs the band attacks ICE, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyau.

You can listen to the album below:

The opening song, “American obituary“, is dedicated to Renee Gooda woman – mother of three children – killed by ICE agents on January 7 while protesting against the activities of thethe US federal agency responsible for controlling customs and immigration security, which in recent weeks has ended up at the center of controversy among US and world public opinion following fatal shootings of civilians during operations conducted in Minneapolis, which created strong social tensions. «Renee Good, born to die free / American mother of three / seventh day January / a bullet for each child, as you can see», «Renee Good, born to die free / American mother of three / Seventh day of January / A bullet for every child, as you can see», sings Bono in the song, which looks at hard rock. And again: «America will rise against the people of the lie», «America will rise again against the people of lies».
