Lewis Capaldi has an irrational fear of marine life
The 29-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi he is terrified of marine life and revealed to the British newspaper Daily Star that he is trying to overcome his irrational fear of the ocean, called thalassophobia, and everything that lives beneath the surface of the water, by going for a swim in the sea.
This is what Capaldi declared to the newspaper: “I hate any type of marine life, I don’t think I offend any, I hate marine life in general. I’m afraid of them. Usually I wouldn’t even dive into the sea, but I do it.”
The singer started diving in the sea when he was in Australia for a concert last December. He has since been told about groupers, a giant fish described as the Labrador of the sea, and is relieved not to have encountered any during his swims. Lewis joked about it: “I’m really glad I didn’t know that at the time. I really hate fish… but I swam, I was drunk.”
Lewis Capaldi he stopped recording in 2023 when he released the album “Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent” (read the review here), but late last year he declared who was planning to enter the studio this January to begin work on his next record after taking an extended break from music to address his mental health issues and make his Tourette syndrome.
On the Australian radio show Carrie and Tommy in December he said: “I haven’t written a song since March of this year, I haven’t picked up a guitar or written anything new. I was in a sort of creative stall. In January, or rather, next month, I will have some time in the studio and it will be the first time I go back to creating something.”
Capaldi explained that he doesn’t have a set process when it comes to producing new material. Describing his writing process he said: “It depends. Sometimes I have songs that are melodies that I record on my phone. Other times I have lyrics that sit around for hours. It depends, sometimes it’s music and melody, sometimes it’s a lyric or something that’s buzzing around me.”
