An summer ago, or thirty: the return of the delta V
A summer ago. Or thirty summers ago. These are the solstices crossed by the Delta V, pioneers of the experimentation between electronic music and Italian song in a panorama, that of the 90s, still not very open to contamination. Two great successes that consecrated them on the radio – the cover of “If by calling” and “A summer ago” -, a vast repertoire of unpublished songs that still fascinate the public of all ages. A summer tour almost arrived at the end, a new album coming out next autumn, anticipated by the single “The Nazis of the Illinois” – a reference to the Blues Brothers, but not only.
A balance of the first thirty years of career
“In thirty years the record and offer panorama has completely changed, as well as the availability of large labels to face alternative paths to the mainstream pop ones”, observes Carlo Bertotti, founder of the group together with Flavio Ferri, referring to the opening by the labels, at the time of their debut, in search of unconventional sounds. “At the time we had the opportunity to bring our ideas, trying to apply the sound coordinates that distinguished us with music that we can call pop by definition”. Then a long pause in which the group wondered which direction to take, before returning, in 2019, with the album “Heimat”. “Today is as if we played another sport, there is always the ball but instead of basketball we are in a volleyball field.”
From the centrality of the sound to the focus on the word
This transformation translates into a change of perspective. If before the sound was privileged, with a great use of electronics and an eye always attentive to the arrangements, now it is the word at the center of an approach that the group defines the most songwriting. The focus moves to “What is to be said” and is already evident in “Nazis of the Illinois”, a song published in April 2025 with a title that brings with it a cinematographic quote – a memorable scene of the Blues Brothers precisely – and an evident political reference. «Politics is in everything we do, even the great abstention figures are a political fact. People think of their own vegetables, convinced that there is little to do to change desuegar structures that work very well. “Nazi of Illinois” is the quote of a film that we have loved much, today it is disturbing to read certain references evidently in everyday life. We never thought of writing a political movement with our songs or joining one idea rather than another. We live a very complicated era, where every day we read news that we would never have imagined twenty years ago. ”
From Pandemia to war in the Middle East: the new album out in autumn
News that the group has heard the need to tell in the new album, which began at the time of Covid and which will be released in autumn accompanied by a tour. «We wrote it on horseback of a pandemic, a disaster in the Middle East, a war at the gates of Europe, a galloping economic crisis, the duties in the White House. How do you not talk about all this? We do not give judgments, but we tell what our lives cross with a personal reading ». Musically, they anticipate, the new album resumes the path started with “Heimat”, the one that most represents them right now. Also through the comparison in the studio with the producers Vernetti and Gozzetti, always alongside the band, who try to make the idea play at best without ever distorting the substance. On the other hand, we speak in the songs performed live, which today sound almost like a producer set. «We are born restless and remain restless, we hardly propose the same version of the pieces, which we try to update each time. In the summer tour that still has a date – on August 30th in Udine – we wanted to tell our repertoire in a different way. And people appreciated ».
Intergenerational audience between loyal and new levers
Thirty -year -old, forty, fifty, even sixty -year -olds. The public of Delta V is varied, who in thirty years of career has been able to be appreciated for several generations. “It strikes us that people confess to knowing us for iconic songs as” if by calling “or” a summer ago “and after the live they want to deepen our discography and our sound universe. We should play more often, but there is a problem related to economies ». If in the 90s it was the rule to organize ten dates in a month, today there are fewer clubs and the promotion of artists moves on the world of social networks. «It is a very large speech. To make it short, we believe it is more the damage than the benefits, at least from a musical point of view ».
