A historic guitar by Eddie Van Halen is auction
One of the historic guitars of Eddie Van Halen, the 1982 Kramer, inspired by its famous “Frankenstein” model with the characteristic red, white and black stripes painting, will be auctioned in the autumn. Pressp Sotheby’s in New York will take place between 21 and 28 October: the sales estimate between 2 and 3 million dollars.
The tool was used by Van Halen on the 1982 and 1983 tours to promote the album “Divi Down”. Later, the guitarist gave him to his trusted technician Robin “Rudy” Leiren, with a dedication. He was then resold to Mick Mars (Mötley Crüe), who used it in the album “Dr. Feelgood”.
Ian Ferreyra de Bone, Managing Director of Sotheby’s luxury division, defined the tool “a real rarity that connects two Heavy Metal giants. It is precisely the type of piece we had in mind for the first Grails Week of Sotheby’s, which puts the most coveted treasures of music, cinema, TV and comics in the spotlight.
Before the auction, the guitar will be exhibited to the public in Monterey (California) from 13 to 16 August, offering fans a unique opportunity to see it closely after decades.
