Joan Thiele is the other “surprise” of Sanremo
A Sanremo Festival, at the ranking level, dignified, ended up in twentieth position. A Sanremo Lucante Festival on the music front: his “echo”, in fact, is one of the most beautiful songs that came out of the event on the Riviera. Finally many have noticed Joan Thiele, who used the maxi musical event to rekindle lights and enginesreturning to the scene with a new album, “Joanita ”, the first entirely in Italianwhich comes three years after the “Acts” collection. “I took my time to live and tell what I had inside – Joan says on social media about his new record project – I gave myself a kiss on the forehead, to reassure the girl inside me. I asked her to trust. When you are a girl, you are not afraid, dream and just images and inventing the future. And I did this. I listened and investigated my emotions, one by one. And so I embraced my guitar, turned on the amplifier and started screaming. ”
An attitude to St. Vincent
Cantatrice and multifaceted producer, Thiele, who has been making music for ten years with discontinuity, but who has now found a new balance, has experienced his childhood between Colombia and Italy. In 2023 he won the David di Donatello for best original song with the song “bullets”, based on the film “I eat you the heart”. His sound world ranges between R&B, soul, jazz allusions and international vocation, with a film system reminiscent of the soundtracks of Italian cinema of the 60s and 70s, with a particular tribute to Piero Umiliani. The work of the latter Joan had the opportunity to study closely thanks to the collaboration of the Umiliani family who opened the doors of the study and the family archive. “Joanita” plays with all these elements: it is a multi-stated disc in which each song seems to be the background to a film scene and where the guitarhis instrument, in many cases stands out. Cinema and emotions are the beating heart of “Joanita”: Each trace of the disc is linked to an emotion It is a precise memory, creating a mosaic of experiences ranging from nostalgia to anger, from fragility to desire for escape. From “poison” that represents anger, passing from “Kiss on the forehead” that explores the theme of forgiveness to “Goddess”, “Gangster eyes”, “madrella” and “face of woman” who tell stories of passion, creativity, love and fragility. And again the Sanremese “Eco”, an invitation to look at their fears in the face and to overcome them. On the purely musical front “Joanita” has rich and different arrangements: “The liquid form” is illuminated by the guitar, “kiss on the forehead” is surrounded by western atmospheres, “sunset” is warmer, psychedelic and distorted “blue water”while “Gangster eyes” is more jazzate. Interesting are the pieces like “Joanita” and “Cruz”, the first tribal and urban, the second “to Rosalia” with the guitar that acts as a skeleton. “Dea” is like taking the time machine, “woman’s face” has a dreamlike sound. “Pazzerella” is a song by woman, in Neapolitanconveys light -heartedness and freedom. “Joanita”, somehow, is as if it were the first real album of the singer -songwriter why returns a kaleidoscope of colors.
