Axell: afrobeat at the opening of Jovanotti’s tour

A new voice that he married Afrobeat with new generation urban musica mix that pushed Jovanotti to want him with him on every date of his next tour “Palajova” starting from March 2025: Axell, step by step, continues to demonstrate his determination and get noticed. “Sinaloa” is his latest single: over a soft sound produced by Vaporstef and Niphkeys, the story of a mysterious and fascinating girl unfolds, which the artist describes as dangerous and unpredictable just like the infamous city Sinaloa in Mexico. The song joins the tracklist of “Energy Kill Dem”, a four-song EP released this summer which showed some of the different facets of the young artist. Inside it you can find sound experiments which accompanied the sunny days, alternating with style exercises and love stories.

Among these there is also “Energia”, single co-produced by Vaporstef and Mace and soundtrack of a trip to Senegal to discover his African origins made with Ghali, Giulio Rosati and his entire team. Started from Sto Records, Ghali’s labelwith a series of singles and collaborations, Axell’s afro universe is increasingly showing itself to the public. Maip Diop, aka Axell was born in Kaolack, Senegal, in 2000. Having arrived in Italy with his family at the age of 9, he initially lived in Trofarello, a town in the province of Turin, where he began to cultivate his passion for music and learned to play the trumpet and piano. At 12 years old, after moving to Turin in the Borgo Vittoria district, it grew within the context of Barriera di Milanoa neighborhood known for its multi-ethnicity and for the many problems that afflict it.

From these problems and the varied social context in which he lives, Maip draws inspiration for his lyrics and makes music and writing primarily a personal outlet. Over the last few years he has released many songs on digital platforms including “Argent”. In 2021 he signed together with his producer Vaporstef for Sto Records, the label. With the label he publishes the titles of the singles “Problems”, Frontline, “Malocchio #1”, “Kili Kili”, “La Mula”, “ENERGIA”, “Malocchio #2” all released in 2023 and “Scam” with Taxi B, released in January 2024. In the first months of the same year the single “Sailor Moon” with Sacky was released. He also participates in last autumn’s project “No regular music” by producers Sadturs and Kiid.
